Relax...it's only a hobby

For anyone that knows me, it will come as no surprise when I say I have a tendency to be a tad...shall we say 'full on'...when taking up a new activity...and I am forever taking up new activities.

Now don't get me wrong, this desire to learn has certainly filled my life with many achievements and a wonderful assortment of skills and abilities. My childhood dream of becoming a tap dancing nurse gives a little insight into how my brain works. Long story short, if it exists, I want to do it. Not just do it...but master it!

I started this blog with the best of intentions. It was a fun way to show family and friends my creations, without clogging up their Facebook newsfeed.  Eventually, however, my brain took over and all hell broke loose. I'd start writing a post only to delete the whole thing because it was boring, not detailed enough, or *gulp* it showed that I'm far from being an expert *THE HORROR*. I've spent the last few weeks feeling like some sort of fraud as Facebook page likes dropped off and my posts stopped reaching the masses. (Don't get me started on what Facebook Page Insights do to a girls self esteem).

How had this mix of activities I love become such of chore? I love craft and I love writing, so shouldn't it be easy to do them together? Then it hit me. I had forgotten why I had started in the first place. To share my joy in my hobbies. I wanted to show people what I enjoyed doing in my spare time, show off a few creations and maybe develop a few tutorials along the way. Sure, some posts would be glorious articles to inspire generations...but some might just be about cats.

So here I am. Back on the blog-wagon with a refreshing new outlook. I hope you enjoy riding along beside me as we venture into the ridiculously diverse world that is my crafty mind.

Rachael xx

  1. Huge hugs to you! You're not a fraud of any kind. You inspired me to sew my very first skirt, my first ever piece of clothing for my children. I love reading your blog and reading your FB page. I'll be happy to follow along, even if you right about cats ;)
