Wow...so my last blog post was nearly a month ago. Sorry it's been so long. I can assure you, it's definitely not because I've run out of things to talk about. If anything, it's quite the opposite. Lately my head has been exploding with idea after idea of great ways to keep you all amused. To be honest, it all became a little overwhelming. I decided to take some time away from the computer to have a long hard think about which ideas fit and which should simply stay in dreamland.
I'm also enjoying my last year full time with my princess before she joins the big scary world that is kindergarten.
Anywho, it's a lovely Friday evening here. Baby girl is asleep and The Big Cheese isn't home from work yet (no, I don't actually call him that...it just made me chuckle). I thought it was a great time to tell you which ideas made the cut.
Patterns/Tutorials
I will still be gradually releasing patterns and tutorials as time permits. I have a number of patterns on the go right now and am just deciding on the best way to release them once they are finished. There will be a variety of styles from modern to country cute (that's a genre right?) so hopefully I'll have all tastes covered.
I Support Local
I've been sitting on this idea for over a year now, but was finally given the kick up the bum that I needed to get started. I will discuss this more in a future post but the name really does say it all. I will be supporting more local businesses through a number of means including purchasing from Australian online stores, visiting and reviewing local stores and interviewing Australian designers, handmaidens or whoever else fits the part. If you have any ideas or think you might be someone I'd like to talk to (even if you're a small fish), then please don't hesitate to email me at sewtodaycleantomorrow@gmail.com.
Blockalogue
I had intended on starting this a month ago. Unfortunately a few other blogs had a similar idea and, while it's perfectly natural that a number of us would take a similar path, I wasn't comfortable starting until I was sure my direction was still unique. It is...so I will begin this endeavour in the coming weeks. Long story short, I will regularly release individual quilt block tutorials. These will make up my Blockalogue (get it?). You can then pick and choose which ones you'd like to use when designing your own quilts.
The Thrifty Quilter
Finally, I intend on this year being a little more thrifty than previous ones. This isn't because I'm cheap. I really just want to see if I can do it. Can I make a quilt from thrift store items...that doesn't look like it was made with thrift store items only? Only time will tell.
Obviously I will go into more detail on each of these when the time comes. I just wanted to take the time to tell you what's been going on in this little head of mine before you all thought I'd up and left you for a younger...quilt blog reader?
Oh, and I apologise for this post being all wordy and no pictures or inspirational quotes or whatever else it is I'm supposed to do to make this a good blog. I really just wanted to get these words out to you as soon as possible (i.e. I couldn't be bothered LOL).
Soooo...what do you think? Are you looking forward to my direction for the year?
Yes! I love the idea of supporting local especially.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I've had a few ideas for supporting locally that I've discussed with businesses but the workload associated was huge and overwhelming. I finally realised that what I originally had planned was a perfect starting point. Win Win really hahaha.
DeleteSounds like a plan to me! I ventured into the "vintage linen as dress fabric" thing over the last two years and it's amazing what op shop goodies are out there!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad to hear you're still going ahead with the blockalogue - I need some quilty education.
I'm actually really looking forward to stalking some op shops for all the right goodies ; )
DeleteWith our dollar so low at the moment I'm definitely more invested in supporting local right now. I bought a F8 bundle from an IG shop today and it actually worked out cheaper than buying from the US for a change!!
ReplyDeleteYour Thrifty Quilter project sounds interesting! On the odd occasions I've been to op shops lately, I never find anything good. It's always dingy curtains, or old children's sheets in the fabric pile area. Oh, and the odd unhemmed tea towel (the cheap and nasty kind!).
It'll be interesting to see how successful I will be given that our local thrift range isn't fantastic. It sure will be fun trying new things though.
DeleteI love the idea of supporting local businesses first before looking at international businesses. It means that the money spent with them stays in Australia and allows that business to grow and expand according to demand.
ReplyDeleteExactly. It'll also open our eyes as to what is really available around us. Sure, some local businesses may not have the latest and greatest range, but they might have something even more exciting that we're all missing out on.
